The Divorce Recovery Workshop (DRW)

This is part of the UK DRW National Charity which is a self funding voluntary organisation started in 1992.

Each workshop is a self help group run by locally trained volunteer Facilitators who have already been through the workshop but are not necessarily members of St John's. The workshop involves a course of six weekly evening sessions held at St John's Old Vicarage, to help individuals, who are separated or divorced, to come to terms with the irretrievable break down of their marriage or longterm relationship. It is suitable for any adult of any age and at any stage of their separation or divorce.

The content of the workshop is based on the Christian book 'Growing through Divorce' by Jim Smoke of the USA. Each session, which lasts two hours, entails looking at videos on various aspects of divorce followed by discussion in small groups. The groups provide a safe environment for people to share their experiences, to gain an understanding of their feelings and and to give and receive support from others in the same position.

These workshops provide an opportunity to help individuals grow through their painful experience in a non critical and supportive environment and assist in the process of readjustment in their lives at the same time introducing them to a new circle of friends for ongoing support.
