Romania Mission Trip 2011
This summer revival (the Youth Congregation of St John’s Church) and FORM are teaming up together to go on a Mission Trip to Romania (28th July to 4th August). This will be the fourth time that young people from St John’s Church have gone to Romania to support the work of Cry in the Dark and show God’s love to children and young people in deprived parts of that country. This year there are the two FORM Gap Year students, Helen Rochead and David Pawson, with Ivan Fearn as the FORM leader, and 11 young people – Hannah Foden, Mali Roberts, Hannah Ling, Jo Plummer, Sarah Nichols, Sam Bridgeman, Louisa Skevington, Rebecca Webb, Peter Ling, Theo Roberts and Martha Coombs – and 2 youth leaders, Andy Williams and Jackie Foden.
Cry in the Dark have two main projects. Casa Lumina is a residential care home and family for 22 young people with special needs in Comanesti, North East Romania. Casa Albert is a centre of excellence for palliative care services based in the Bacau region of North East Romania, providing high quality holistic care and symptom management to children and young adults with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses and much needed support for their families - many living in poor and remote rural areas.
In 2011, Cry in the Dark will be providing the programme, which will involve some activities at the day centre at Casa Albert, a visit to Casa Lumina, games with children in a village or town estate and some sort of practical small building or renovation project in the community chosen from one of their patients on the Hospice care programme.
We need to raise £600 per person, which includes some money towards the ongoing costs for Cry in the Dark to continue it’s work. Over the coming months there will be a number of fund raising events including a film night with fish and chip supper, cake sales and a variety night. Some of the young people are undertaking sponsored fasts and sponsored silences and Ivan and David will be joined by Revd. Dave Gardner and Colin Charlton to conquer the Three Peaks Challenge. Please support this Mission Trip, and the events to raise the necessary funds, in prayer, as well as coming to the events.
